Oshiage Express (Golden Days)

Night sets in at Oshiage. The vibrant district in Tokyo embraces its past while clashing with contemporary urbanisation. Over centuries, merchants and artisans lived in the lowlands of the Sumida river, better known as Shitamachi. Centuries of economic boom have left its marks, overriding authentic and traditional life. But not all guidance is lost for the wandering souls. The Skytree it seems, shines to a bright future.

‘The Golden Days’ is an audiovisual capsule illuminating human mindfulness. The unscripted glances loosely connect a spectrum of realities we might live to experience. From the individual to the collective point of view, questions arise:

  • What is the purpose of caring?
  • How does the conversation unfold?
  • Why do we immerse or detach?

This drop contains six thoughtfully crafted reels made of locally sourced, raw Japanese footage.
